Chief Qasim Shabazz is an inspiring figure from North Omaha, Nebraska, who has transformed his life from the streets and gang culture to a path of purpose and faith. Raised in a tough environment, Qasim turned his life around at the age of 19 when he dedicated himself to Islam. Since then, he has been committed to giving back to the Omaha community, especially its youth, showing them that no matter where you come from, you can achieve greatness.
Chief Shabazz has been doing security and bodyguard work for over 20 years and has obtained his active shooter certificate.
Recognized for his contributions, Qasim has been honored by the State of Nebraska with Resolution 72 and received the Malcolm X Innovative Award for his forward-thinking ideas aimed at uplifting the community. His efforts have touched the lives of many, and he has had the privilege of serving as security for prominent African American leaders such as Dr. Umar Johnson, Ilyasah Shabazz (daughter of Malcolm X), and boxing champion Terrance "Bud" Crawford.
Qasim's commitment to empowering the next generation led him to found the Urban Survival Club, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting young Black men in developing a strong mindset. The organization's mission is to cultivate an environment where these young individuals can discover their unique strengths, build essential life skills, and foster a deep connection with their cultural heritage. He teaches "Bodyguard Training", to the youth to show them what it takes to be in this career field and how rewarding it can be.
Through his work, Qasim Shabazz continues to be a beacon of hope, showing Omaha’s youth that anything is possible when you rise above your circumstances.
